@Micha: This link http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/… says it's about 8 miles and starts at Pioneer Horse Camp.

@Kim: How about hiking in this trail in spring? Is it possible?

The highway is closed until June 15th. If you start at the Elbow Pass Day Use Area it's only 8 km return. It's a fairly easy hike. I haven't encountered any black flies on my hikes. I have had a bad deer fly bite though.
