When Is the Best Time
The castle is one of the top 100 spots in Japan for viewing cherry blossoms. Blooming time is in spring: From end of March until early April. There is also a castle festival held annually during the blooming period, the Oshiro Matsuri festival with illuminated cherry blossoms at night from 6-9 p.m..
Special time of day tip: Every night 600 lanterns are illuminate the castle and its surroundings. It's a magnificent view.

Where and Tips
The castle was built in 1580 by Junkei Tsutsui on the top of hill. Visitors have a great view to Nara and Tenri. There is not much of the castle left but the ruins are a symbol of Yamatokoriyama City. There is some unique atmosphere around this site. This place is famous as a place with beautiful Sakura. When I was there, it was a cloudy day. But I really enjoy Sakura with former castle of Big Lord. The castle is located in a park with several areas where you can sit down and enjoy food from one of the many food stalls.
The nearest station is "Kintetsu-Kōriyama". Entrance is free.
