When Is the Best Time
The best time to visit the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima is in the morning or later in the evening. During these times, it’s less busy and more peaceful. Try to avoid weekends, as it gets more crowded.
I visited here in the morning and early evening. There are many visitors at any time of day, but never as crowded as in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum nearby.
Opening Hours
The Atomic Bomb Dome has no opening hours. It’s an open space inside the park and never closed. However, you cannot enter the ruin itself, as it is surrounded by a fence.
The park is also known for its gorgeous cherry blossoms. Over 300 cherry trees can be found along the Motoyasu River which flows along the side of the park. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial is commonly called Atomic Bomb Dome or Genbaku (A Bomb). It is UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Before the bomb Hiroshima was still untouched in the second world war. The reason why it was chosen as target on August 6 in 1945. 70.000 to 80.000 people were killed immediately and another 70.000 were fatally injured from the radiation. I visited here for the second time in my life. I had arrived at Hiroshima by “over night bus”. Hiroshima’s bus terminal is not far from this place. When I left Hiroshima in the evening, I visited the Dome again before departure. Just sat down to watch this building…. thinking of many things …..
