In our opinion, this is the perfect month for a Vegas trip. We visit each year in mid-September and the temperature is mostly between 90°F and 95°F in the afternoon. We like to spend our middays at the pool.
Early September: Plan for summer-like conditions during the first week of the month and try to avoid the midday and early afternoon sun. Historically, visitors can still count on about 100°F during the day and around 80°F at night.
Mid-/Late September: However, as the month progresses the weather cools down and temperatures drop to around 95°F and finally to 89°F. If you enjoy warm weather but dislike intense heat, the last two weeks are the perfect time to visit.

Is it Cold in September?
Las Vegas is not cold in September. The weather is still hot in the first two weeks of September, with summer-like temperatures reaching the mid-90s, often breaking 100°F. Mornings and evenings are cooler than in previous months.
Coldest Temperature
The coldest average low temperature in early September in Vegas hovers around 75°F in the first half and about 65°F towards the end of the month during nighttime. The coolest part of the day will be between 10 PAM and 10 AM.
Humidity
The average humidity in Vegas during September is around 25%. Mornings in Vegas during September are cooler and less humid, with humidity climbing as the day gets hotter. The evenings begin to cool down again and the humidity drops.
Rainfall / Monsoon
The average rainfall in Vegas during September is 0.27 inches (7mm). The city is expected to have around 3 days of rainfall over the whole month.
The probability of rain falling during September is at around 10% at the beginning of the month, dropping down to 7% percent by the end of the month. Early September is at the end of the Monsoon season, that’s why the chance of rain is higher compared to the rest of the months.
Outfits and Packing Guide
During September in Las Vegas, you should wear light layers, shorts, and t-shirts. The weather is still very hot during the day so pack light clothing. The pools are open so don’t forget your swimsuit. However, mornings and evenings are cooler so wear a light sweater or cardigan at these times.
The temperatures at the beginning of September in Vegas are much hotter than at the end of the month, so bear this in mind when you are packing for your trip. You will still need sunhats, sunglasses, suncream, and a refillable water bottle during September as daytime temperatures reach the mid-90s.
When we visited Vegas in September for the first time, we didn’t follow these rules. Eventually, one of us got dehydrated, and another one got sunstroke. That’s not what you want while on vacation.

While Las Vegas is not cold this time of year, people who tend to get chillier will want to bring a light sweater for the evenings when temperatures go down.
Tip: If you get cold easily, bring one. I personally never need a sweater when I’m indoors, and while casinos and restaurants will blast the AC, sometimes places will be so busy or the doors will open so frequently that it won’t always be too cold inside.
But my mother, for example, is someone who is perpetually cold and needs a sweater everywhere she goes.
💡 Even if you are a perpetually warm person and don’t need lots of layers to keep warm, we suggest packing a sweater or cardigan to protect yourself from the strong indoor air conditioning. Because the Vegas desert sees extreme heat most of the year, many casinos and restaurants will keep temperatures very chilly indoors.

Wearing jeans will not feel great during the high daytime temperatures, especially near the beginning of September. Still, we suggest you pack a pair for the cooler evenings.
If you choose to wear jeans throughout the day, try to stay away from tight, skinny cuts. Pack a looser and more breathable style. This will not only help you be more comfortable during your day of walking and Vegas excursions, but it will keep you cooler in the warm temperatures.
Styling tip: Pair your loose boyfriend jeans with a tight tank or crop top and a flowy button-up top. This will give you a cool summer look even as Vegas begins to inch up on fall.

Make sure to pack a fanny pack or small backpack in your luggage for your Vegas trip. This is a good idea to keep your hands free and your belongings on your person while you explore all the fun and treats the Entertainment Capital of the World has to offer.
Before starting each day on your trip, make sure you stock your bag with a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, your wallet, your phone, a phone charger, and hand sanitizer.
Tip: Beware of pickpockets, especially on the Strip and in the downtown area! Invest in an anti-theft bag, or if that is not an option for you, bring a bag you can securely strap across your chest or around your waist while keeping the bag’s opening in your line of vision.
Staying Safe
Regardless of how you choose to store and carry your belongings, always be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to where you are, who is around you, and keep track of your things at all times.
Tip: Anti-Theft Bag

💡 Vegas is a mecca for pickpockets! Invest in an anti-theft bag, or if that is not an option for you, bring a bag you can securely strap across your chest or around your waist while keeping the bag’s opening in your line of vision.
Dress Like Day And Night
While you will want to keep things more casual during your day of walking around or lounging by the hotel pool, make sure to pack your very best outfits for your nights out in Las Vegas.
Visiting nightclubs: Keep in mind that most nightclubs do have a dress code, so come prepared to dress to impress.
Visiting casinos and shows: There is no official dress code for visiting casinos and shows in Vegas, however, if you are visiting during the evening it is advisable to dress smartly. For women, a dress or smart trousers and a dressy top are good choices. For men, a smart button-down shirt and smart pants (trousers) with dress shoes are expected.

Tip: It likely will not be feasible to carry a spare pair of shoes with you if you plan on wearing heels that can become uncomfortable as the night goes on. If this is the case, bring a pair of socks in your purse or clutch.
This way, if your feet can’t keep up with your shoes anymore, you can take them off and still protect your feet from dirt on the casino floors or debris in the Vegas streets with your handy socks.

While September is the transition month from summer into fall, this doesn’t mean the desert’s summer sun eases up much. It’s important to consider how strong the Vegas sun is when visiting outside of winter time.
While temperatures will cool a bit by the end of the month, you still likely won’t see forecasts below 88 degrees fahrenheit. This means there is still a risk for heat-related illness, so keep in mind that dressing comfortably and staying healthy should be your priority.
Avoid tight, compressive, and non-breathable clothing, especially during the daytime. Fall clothes like layers and jackets should stay out of your suitcase.
Remember that UV ray protection is just as important as heat protection. If you plan on wearing clothing that reveals a lot of skin to stay cool, remember to stock up on sunscreen and keep your skin from burning. Also, keep a hat and sunglasses handy!
Tip: Make sure you’re wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for any extended outdoor activity, and reapply at least every two hours.
Tip: Chic sunglasses can add an extra “wow” element to any outfit. Your hat should be stylish but practical in keeping your face protected from the sun.
💡 If you want to keep it more casual, a baseball cap can work just fine.

- Women's casual sneakers with a clean look
Make sure you leave room for your most comfortable shoes in your suitcase, especially if you’re planning to walk on the Strip for a day or spending lots of your excursion time on your feet.
Las Vegas is home to all kinds of people with all kinds of styles, which means that wearing walking sneakers will not make you stand out as a tourist, especially if you are spending time on the Strip or downtown.
More Personal Experiences and Tips
Pack allergy medicine: I’m not sure if I’m allergic to some desert plant or if it’s just the dry air, but I bring allergy medicine every time I go to Vegas because of how irritated my nose can get, especially when the seasons change.
I normally never suffer from allergies, especially in my humid home state, but the dry air and seasonal changes can be brutal in Las Vegas. Save yourself some time and extra money on your trip by bringing allergy medicine ready to go with you in your suitcase!
Electrolytes are your best friend: When I visited Las Vegas in September to visit a friend, I knew it would be warm but wasn’t prepared at all for summer temps. After a day of walking through a few casinos and trying to eat my way through Chinatown, I began to feel a little dizzy and worn down.
I had drank a bottle of water in the morning, but I started to sweat a lot in the early afternoon as it got warmer and warmer. My friend suggested we buy electrolyte powder at a nearby store to make sure I wasn’t getting dehydrated, and it completely turned me around.
My best advice is to pack electrolytes or buy a gatorade, especially if you’re walking around most of the day. September feels more like summer than fall, and your trip will be much better if you keep that in mind when it comes to your hydration.
Don’t get lizard skin: Pack some lotion in your suitcase and keep it on you whenever possible! The dry air will suck as much moisture from your skin as possible, especially if you’re sweating or relaxing in the pool.
I have oily skin but the desert weather in Vegas dries out my hands so bad every time I visit, no matter the time of year. If you don’t like the greasy feel of lotion on your hands all the time, the trick I like to use is to invest in a thick cream to put on your skin at night to let it absorb some moisture.
This way your skin can absorb as much moisture as possible overnight and prevent some of the drying and cracking that comes with a day of exploring the city!

While it won’t be cold, take advantage of the small dip in sky-high temperatures and make sure to pack some pairs of pants and a light sweater for the chillier evenings.
Outfits for Casinos | Restaurants | Clubs | Shows
Casino
Las Vegas casinos don’t enforce a specific dress code, but it’s generally expected that guests dress sensibly.
Even in the most upscale casinos, casual attire is completely acceptable, provided it’s neat and presentable.
Feel free to visit any Las Vegas casino in shirts and trousers without worrying about being judged for your choice of clothing.
Dressing for the Hotel Casino
In Las Vegas casinos, your attire can vary based on the hotel and time of day. During daytime, both men and women can go for a relaxed yet neat look with shorts or jeans, blouses, sport shirts with collars, or tasteful t-shirts.
In the evening, the dress code shifts slightly towards formality. Opt for jeans, slacks, blouses, skirts, dresses, button-down shirts, or jackets. Flip flops are a no-go.
While most casinos don’t enforce a strict dress code, observing what others wear can be a helpful guide.

Nightclub
Dressing for the Nightclub
Nightclubs and lounges in Vegas usually have a dress code focused on smart and attractive attire. Avoid shorts, torn clothes, sneakers, flip flops, and plain t-shirts.
A more polished look is preferred – think business casual. This includes pressed jeans or slacks, button-down shirts, suitable dresses, skirts, blouses, and closed-toe leather shoes.
Adding a jacket to a collarless shirt like a t-shirt or pullover can elevate the outfit.
- Men:
- Pressed jeans or slacks
- Button-down shirts (long or short sleeved)
- Jackets (optional but recommended)
- Closed-toe leather shoes
- Women:
- Suitable dresses or skirts
- Blouses or stylish tops

- Jackets or elegant outerwear
- Closed-toe shoes or dressy sandals
Restaurant
Dressing for Fine Restaurants
Fine dining in Vegas often comes with a dress code. While only a few, like Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand and Picasso at Bellagio, may require jackets, most fine dining establishments lean towards “business casual.”
This includes pressed jeans or slacks, button-down shirts (long or short-sleeved), and closed-toe shoes for both men and women. Ladies might also consider social occasion dresses.
- Men (Fine Dining):
- Jackets (required in select restaurants like Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand and Picasso at Bellagio)
- Pressed jeans or slacks
- Button-down long or short-sleeved shirts
- Closed-toe shoes
- Women (Fine Dining):
- Social occasion dresses
- Blouses with pressed jeans or slacks

Show
Dressing for the Las Vegas Show
The time of day influences your outfit choice for Las Vegas shows. Daytime shows are casual – prioritize comfort. Evening shows, especially upscale celebrity performances, often see guests dressing up more, though strict formal wear isn’t necessary.
Aim for an outfit that makes you feel comfortable and fitting in. For men, this might be dark jeans or slacks with a smart shirt, and for women, a dress or stylish ensemble suitable for an evening out.
In all these settings, the key is to balance comfort with style, keeping in mind the specific atmosphere of the place you’re visiting. Remember, Vegas is a place to impress and enjoy, so dress in a way that enhances your experience and confidence.
