DECEMBER WEATHER

December marks the start of winter, and the weather will drop slightly compared to the previous month. However, if you’re hoping for a white Christmas, thick snow doesn’t usually fall until January.

December is cold, with temperatures dropping to under 10°C (50°F). There will be frosty, rainy days and also dry periods. As the month progresses, the weather will get progressively colder as it approaches Christmas and New Year. On average, December has 10 rainy days. Snow is typically light.

Despite this, there is something comforting and exciting about wrapping up in jumpers, coats, scarves, and gloves and walking around the Christmas markets of London with a hot cup of cocoa with your friends and family.

The average high temperatures during December usually reach 9°C (48°F) and lows of around 5°C (41°F). There can be variations in the average high temperatures, however, depending on the time of the month you go:

  • Early December: 10°C (50°F)
  • Mid-December: 9°C (48°F)
  • Late December: 6°C (43°F)
Rain

The chance of rain gradually increases throughout the month, from 30% at the start of December to 32% towards the end. It is likely that at some point during your trip, you will experience some rainfall, so it is recommended that you take waterproofs and plan for some indoor activities if you don’t like being outdoors in the rain.

Colder Times

In December, you will need to be wrapped up for most of the day, especially in the mornings. They can get frosty, and temperatures can get very low. Wearing hats and scarves in the morning will be needed with a thick coat, and then in the afternoon, you may be able to take off the accessories.

Typical daily temperature progression during a day in mid-December:

  • Early Morning: 5°C (41°F)
  • Morning: 9°C (48°F)
  • Afternoon: 10°C (50°F)
  • Evening: 6°C (43°F)

Tip: If you get cold easily, walking around this busy city and going underground to use the trains will raise your body temperature.

Chances of Snow

Snow can fall during December however it is usually only light snow for a couple of days, and it doesn’t usually stick. The last big snowfall recorded in London during December was in 1999.

December weather visitor reports:

  • “Shorter days and cold, wet weather. But if you’re planning to visit near Christmas, the stores will be dressed for Christmas, and there are many lights and Christmas trees.”\
  • “In December, it might be cold, or it might be unseasonably warm. Wear layers and if you feel cold, spend most of your time in museums and other indoor places.”

December Outfits Overview

December in London can be chilly so pack lots of warm layers that are easy to adjust. It might be cold outside but public transport can get very warm, especially during rush hour. If you get cold easily, pack thermals and layer up with a T-shirt, jumper, coat, and scarf.

Although the temperatures in December dip, it is still not freezing, and you will feel warm dressed in your winter layers so you may feel warmer throughout the day. This is the ideal time to walk around the Christmas markets, absorbing all the aromas and browsing the stalls. Often, it is not extremely cold, so you will be able to relax and spend enough time outside.

If you get warm throughout the day, wear a long-sleeve t-shirt, coat, and a hat so you can take off the jacket.

💡 It is important to bring enough layers or thermals to keep you warm throughout your visit in December.

A raincoat might also be another idea, along with a woolly hat and a scarf. It can be fairly mild but also damp.

Visitor opinion: Layers are the way to go. You should be warm and toasty with a base layer of a cotton long-sleeve top, then a thicker wool jumper. For walking outdoors, add a windproof and waterproof long jacket.

Styles: Typical outfits you will see Londoners wearing during December are jeans, boots, and jumpers. You can make it more stylish by choosing a colourful winter coat or wearing boots with interesting features. The main priority for dressing for London’s December weather is comfort and warmth, however, you can add your own flair with printed scarves or stylish headwear such as berets or chunky knitted hats.

Even though it is winter, many Londoners make the most of the festive period and enjoy dressing up to go out in the evenings. Sequins, sparkle, velvet, and festive colours such as red, green, burgundy, and interesting prints are all welcomed in London.

It is the perfect place to express your unique style. However, just make sure to bring warm tights or layer up with thermals under those festive outfits.

Bag Tip

For going out, bring a purse or small bag. For longer city explorations during the day, we always use a larger bag for water, wallet, phone, and hand sanitizer. Tip: London is one of the world’s hot spots where tourists are getting pickpocketed! That’s why we highly recommend a bag with anti-theft features (see our two tips above!).

With average temperatures in London expected to be 9°C (48°F) in December, a warm coat is essential. December can be wet with rain showers common in the capital, so choose a waterproof coat, potentially with a hood to protect from the rain and the wind.

Long black puffer coats with hoods are popular in London in winter. Puffer coats are warm and a longer-length style will shield you from wet weather, whereas a shorter style is ideal for hopping on and off public transport.

Sneakers are a popular day-to-day footwear choice in London. However, as winter creeps in, so does the wet weather.

💡 If you plan to wear trainers, you will need to find a water-resistant pair with a thick sole to survive the many puddles that appear in December. See our tips above.

Smart dress sneakers are an ideal footwear choice in London as they will be suitable to wear during the day to walk around in and to wear out in the evening.

💡Many places in London are very casual on dress code with casual footwear and jeans accepted in most restaurants and theatres. However, in certain settings, a more formal dress code is the norm. Nightclubs, bars and high-end restaurants will often deny entry if you are wearing trainers, jeans or sportswear.

Check the dress code before travelling to ensure you have the right attire for the occasion or venue.

If you love wearing dresses and skirts then don’t worry, you can still wear them in London during winter. For a winter trip to London, choose dresses and skirts in thick warm materials, with longer lengths.

As long as you are warm you can wear dresses and skirts of any length during winter in London and shorter styles can be worn with thick tights to stay warm. Wearing a long-sleeved dress paired with flat leather boots and warm tights creates a modern yet stylish outfit that can be layered under cardigans and long coats.

A well-fitted dress paired with tights and heels is also a sophisticated choice for an evening out and many Londoners will sacrifice feeling a little colder in the evening to look good. However, a smart long wool coat will also look just as smart over a dress and will keep you warm.

💡Many restaurants and venues have cloakrooms for coats and umbrellas so you can wrap up warm and still look great when you reach your destination.

  • Scarves. A warm wool scarf will keep you warm and add a stylish touch to your winter outfits. Choose a colour to either complement or contrast with your winter coat.
  • Hats. Londoners love a hat during winter. Knitted pom pom hats, or flat caps for men are a popular choice in the city. Plain beanies are the most versatile options for men, women and children and often people match the colour of their hat to their scarf.
  • Gloves. As the frosty weather begins in December it is a good idea to have a pair of gloves with you. This is especially the case if you plan to do any outdoor activities such as ice skating, sightseeing or walking.
Nightwear

Don’t forget to pack your pyjamas and some cosy socks to stay warm at night in your hotel. London hotel rooms usually all have central heating which will be on during December, however, it can still get cold at night so come prepared with some cosy nightwear options.

Outfits From Early to Late December

A trip to London during December can be magical as the city transforms with Christmas lights and plenty of outdoor festive fun. Pack plenty of warm clothes, shoes and accessories to ensure you get the most out of your trip to London.

However just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style. This detailed outfit guide will tell you everything you need to pack for a fun-filled vacation to London in December.

Early to Mid-December

During early to mid-December the weather is cold but it has yet to get frosty. Average temperatures are around 10°C (50°F) and rain showers are expected in December, so rain-proof clothing, shoes and umbrellas are necessities.

For women, a stylish outfit option for early December starts with a comfortable pair of leggings or fitted jeans. Leather-effect leggings also look great and provide comfort and warmth. Add to this outfit a cozy jumper, a warm jacket, flat leather boots, and a cashmere wool hat, and you will be ready for the early-December weather.

For a stylish look, you can coordinate your outfit tones to complement each other. Wearing one colour in different hues or a combination of similar neutral-toned colours will look very put together even if your clothing is casual.

Alternatively, you could wear bold, bright colors together for a unique yet cozy outfit. This could include jewel tones, bold patterns, or a brightly colored hat or bag.

For men, a well-fitting pair of dark jeans will form the base of your outfit. Add to this a cosy Aran-style sweater and flat lace-up waterproof boots.

Depending on your style you could wear a wool coat for a sophisticated and smart appearance or a short puffa jacket for a more casual modern style. A knitted wool hat will keep you warm outside if you plan to do lots of walking and a chic backpack will ensure you have an umbrella close to hand.

Mid to Late December

Mid to late December sees the weather get colder with frosty mornings and sometimes a light drift of snow now and then. You can continue to wear similar outfits from early December with the adjustment of wearing a warmer coat.

Mid to late December is when you will need thicker layers to ensure your base layers, such as T-shirts, tights, and trousers, are warm and suitable for cold weather.

Bring insulated gloves, warm scarves, and cozy hats as the winter winds pick up in late December, and you will feel the chill when you are outside.

Rain showers are expected throughout December, so ensure you have an umbrella and a water-resistant coat. Puffer jackets are more suitable for late December as they provide warmth and insulation.

Children can wear similar styles to adults with leggings or jeans as a base and warm jumpers or fleeces layered over T-shirts. Waterproof, warm boots that can withstand puddle splashes are essential for children. Children also feel the cold more than adults so make sure they have plenty of warm layers on and bring gloves and a hat, even in early December.

💡Although the weather outside will be cold in London during December, the tube can be very warm. Many people use the London Underground system to navigate London which makes it warm. Be prepared to take off a layer when the tube is busy and carry a bag to hold hats, scarves and gloves while you are underground.

Personal Experiences and Tips for December

As a Londoner, December is an exciting time with ice rinks and Christmas markets popping up across the city. It’s a great time to see the capital and there is an exciting merry vibe to London.

One of my favourite activities in London during December is seeing the Christmas lights and the elaborate Christmas window displays at Fortnum and Mason, and Selfridges.

During early December I wear thick jumpers or hooded sweaters with a light waterproof jacket. The weather can be mild in early December so I don’t get the thick coats out until the temperatures drop. I use the London Underground to get around, and it can be very warm if you are wearing too many thick layers.

To ensure I am ready for wet weather I wear flat leather boots all winter long. During the day I either wear Dr Marten lace-up leather boots or Sorel sneaker boots which are both comfortable water-proof options. However, to go out in the evening for a special occasion I wear smarter leather boots with a small heel.

When the weather starts to get cooler in December I wear a thick puffer jacket during the day with jeans or leggings. Puffer jackets are great as they are windproof, warm and resist the rain. If I am going somewhere smart and it’s very cold I wrap up in a stylish long camel coat with a cosy scarf, cashmere woolly hat and insulated gloves for added warmth, and of course I always carry an umbrella.

JANUARY WEATHER

January is the heart of winter in London, bringing chilly weather and the possibility of snow. It’s a month where the temperatures are often at their lowest, and while a picturesque snowy landscape isn’t guaranteed, January is when London is most likely to see snow compared to other months.

The temperatures in January are cold, with daily temperatures around 8°C (46°F) or below. You’ll experience a mix of frosty mornings, rainy days, and occasional dry spells, and as the new year begins, London experiences some of its coldest weather.

On average, January sees about 11 rainy days and drifts of snow which can range from light to moderate.

Despite the chill, there’s a certain charm to bundling up in your warmest clothes, putting on coats, scarves, hats, and gloves, and exploring London’s winter offerings. From cosy pubs with roaring fireplaces to the city’s iconic landmarks set against a crisp winter sky.

The average high temperatures during January typically reach 8°C (46°F), with lows around 3°C (37°F). However, these can fluctuate slightly depending on when you visit during the month:

  • Early January: 8°C (46°F)
  • Mid-January: 7°C (45°F)
  • Late January: 6°C (43°F)
Rain

Rainfall is quite common in January, with the chance of rain slightly increasing as the month progresses. The likelihood of precipitation starts at around 31% at the beginning of January and climbs to about 34% towards the end. Therefore, packing waterproof clothing and planning for indoor activities on rainy days is advisable if you prefer to stay dry.

Colder Times

As a tourist in January, you will need to dress warmly throughout the day, especially in the early mornings and evenings, when temperatures can be chilly. A thick coat, along with hats and scarves, is essential to stay comfortable while outdoor sightseeing.

In the afternoon, as the temperature slightly increases, you might find it possible to remove a layer.

Typical daily temperature progression during a day in mid-January:

  • Early Morning: 3°C (37°F)
  • Morning: 7°C (45°F)
  • Afternoon: 8°C (46°F)
  • Evening: 4°C (39°F)

Tip: If you tend to feel cold easily, walking briskly around London and using the Underground (where it’s typically warmer) can help you maintain a comfortable body temperature.

Tip: To stay warm during January wrap up with insulated gloves and a cosy scarf. Exploring the city briskly on foot will keep you warm, with plenty of stops for hot cocoa and browsing London’s boutique stores.

Chances of Snow

While snow is more likely in January than in December, it is still not a frequent occurrence, with London experiencing mild weather in January. Snowfalls are usually light and do not last long, often melting quickly. However, when it does snow, the city transforms into a beautiful winter wonderland.

Although snowfall in London is light, snow-dusted London’s iconic landmarks in January 2024, lasting a few days with a drop in the temperature to freezing.

While snow is more likely in January than in December, it is still not a frequent occurrence. Snowfalls are usually light and do not last long, often melting quickly.

However, when it does snow, the city transforms into a beautiful winter wonderland. The last significant snowfall in January was in 2013, so it remains a possibility for those hoping for a snowy experience.

January Outfit Tips | Overview

January in London carries much of the same chill as December, so packing warm layers is essential. The winter air can be frosty, especially with the wind chills, so layers will become your best friend.

Consider bringing a mix of thermal tops and cosy sweaters, which can easily be adjusted as you move between the outdoors and the overheated public transport. A good-quality winter coat is a must, preferably one that is windproof and water-resistant, as January can also be wet.

💡Don’t forget hats, scarves and gloves to protect you from the chilly wind in January. You will definitely need them.

Visitor opinion: Although it is cold the weather in London during January isn’t freezing. Bring plenty of layers and winter accessories – like gloves, a hat and a scarf – you may not need all of those things all of the time but they would be sensible things to have with you for being outside in January.

Styles: Londoners still dress stylishly even in the cold. Expect to see trendy puffer coats, leather ankle boots, and smart jeans when exploring the city during the day.

In the evening Londoners will make more effort to stay both warm and stylish with brushed wool coats, dresses and knee-high boots. Men keep the cold away with blazer jackets or wool coats, layered over sweaters with dark jeans and leather dress boots.

Dressing in London is mostly about practicality and comfort when it’s cold. Coats may look stylish yet are made of fabrics such as wool and leather to keep people snug in the cold weather.

London is a sartorially diverse place to visit. People can wear what they want and their style will be accepted throughout London. However, to get the most out of your trip ensure your winter essentials for well and are comfortable. Inject your fashion sense into winter outfits with unusual hats, patterned scarves and funky footwear.

Bag Tip

During the day backpacks or large shoulder bags are the norm to carry everything you need for a day of sightseeing. However, at night leave the backpack at home and just take the essentials in a smaller purse or smart leather shoulder bag.

Tip: London is one of the world’s hot spots where tourists are getting pickpocketed! That’s why we highly recommend a bag with anti-theft features (see our two tips above!).

In London, a pair of leather ankle boots are a staple part of every Londoner’s wardrobe. For a trip to London in January, choose a versatile style that is comfortable and warm. You will likely be walking around the city so comfort is key and flat leather ankle boots can protect your feet from the cold wet weather.

For daywear, it is common to see walking boot style shoes as London is such a walkable city. Dr Martens is also a popular boot style in the city. However, if you plan to go out in the evening to eat dinner or catch a show you may want to bring an alternative smart pair of boots.

For evening wear, women can wear smart boots with a heel to restaurants, theatres and nightclubs, whereas men should opt for a brogue boot or Chelsea boot style.

If you love wearing dresses and skirts you can still wear them in London during winter. Average daily temperatures in January are around 8°C (46°F) so choose dresses and skirts in thick warm materials, with longer lengths.

Thick insulated tights will keep you just as warm as wearing trousers and many women wear dresses and skirts all year round in London.

Wearing a long-sleeved dress paired with flat leather boots and warm tights creates a modern yet stylish outfit that can be layered under cardigans and long coats. Or a well-fitted dress worn with tights and heels is a sophisticated look for an evening out.

If you are worried about feeling the cold, wearing a longer-length coat will help keep the chills away.

💡Many restaurants and venues have cloakrooms for coats and umbrellas, so you can wrap up warm and still look great when you reach your destination.

  • Hats. Londoners love a hat during winter. Knitted pom pom hats are a fun choice for any gender whereas men can sometimes be seen in flat caps. Plain beanies are the most versatile options for men, women and children, which can be colour-coordinated with your scarf or coat for a put-together look.
  • Gloves. As the weather gets colder in January you will need a pair of gloves with you. This is especially the case if you plan outdoor activities such as ice skating, sightseeing or walking.

Detailed Outfit Guide | From Early to Late January

The festive decorations may have come down, but the crisp air and cosy atmosphere of winter make January a perfect time to explore.

To ensure you make the most of your visit, it’s essential to pack warm clothes, sturdy footwear, and the right accessories, however staying stylish is still possible, even in the cold. This outfit guide will help you pack everything you need for a fashionable, yet comfortable city break in London this January.

Early to Mid-January

During early to mid-January the weather is cold with temperatures around 6°C (43°F). Mornings are frosty and evenings are chilly so plenty of warm layers are needed.

For anyone planning to explore London outdoors or walk around the city, a thick winter coat and insulated boots are essential items of clothing. Men, women and children are seen in padded coats and puffer jackets in early January to protect them from the cold and the rain.

A stylish January day outfit for women includes jeans, leather boots, a cosy sweater and a warm winter coat. A soft knitted hat and a scarf will keep any cold wind away while you explore the capital and you should bring gloves just in case.

As your main outward appearance will be your coat and winter accessories, make stylish choices for a well-put-together outfit. Matching your hat and scarf will look polished and choosing a well-fitting coat will look more chic.

For men, a well-fitting pair of dark jeans will form the base of your outfit, which you can pair with flannel cotton shorts or cosy jumpers. Comfortable warm boots and a thick warm jacket are essential as the weather can be wet, especially if it snows. A knitted wool hat will keep you warm when you pop outside and a stylish backpack will look better than a sporty version.

Mid to Late January

The weather in mid to late January is much the same with the expectation of more rain and colder temperatures. London can occasionally experience freak weather with temperature plunges and snow in January, although these are usually short-lived.

💡 If you are travelling in mid-to-late January make sure you have plenty of thermal layers with you and bring warm hats, gloves and scarves.

It’s also a good idea to bring at least two footwear options. A sturdy warm pair of boots that can handle cold weather and icy conditions and a comfortable pair of waterproof sneakers for when the weather is mild. January weather can be unpredictable so it’s good to have options in case the weather decides to surprise you.

Children can wear similar styles to adults with leggings or jeans as a base and warm jumpers or fleeces layered over T-shirts. Waterproof, warm boots that can withstand rain and snow are essential for children. Children tend to feel the cold more than adults so make sure they have plenty of warm layers on and bring gloves and a hat.

💡Although the weather outside will be cold in London during January, the tube can be very warm. Many people use the London Underground system to navigate London which makes it feel hot. Be prepared to take off a layer when the tube is busy and carry a bag to hold hats, scarves and gloves while you are underground.

Personal Experiences and Tips for January

During January the weather can be gloomy and cold with some sudden temperature drops compared to December. However, there is still a festive cheer about the city with people still visiting ice rinks and outdoor light shows pop up throughout the city.

To stay warm in January, I wear a thick, insulated, and waterproof winter coat. My go-to is a black puffer coat with a hood, perfect for keeping me dry during unexpected rainstorms. However, when I go out to restaurants or the theatre, I switch to a long wool trench coat, which is both stylish and warm.

There is a higher chance of snow in January with light snowfall experienced throughout the last few years. However, when it snows in London it is usually light and can quickly turn the streets to a slippery mush. In case there is snow bring boots with good grip, which also come in handy if it gets icy.

Finally, a warm knitted hat is always either on my head or in my bag during January. Wearing a knitted hat keeps your head warm but also protects your hair from light rain showers when it’s too windy to get the umbrella out.

FEBRUARY WEATHER

February continues the winter chill in London, offering crisp days and cold nights. It’s a month where the city can experience varied weather patterns, from icy mornings to clear and sunny afternoons.

While snow can still make an appearance, February often marks the transition towards milder conditions as the city moves closer to spring.

February is cold, with temperatures generally remaining below 9°C (48°F). Visitors will encounter a combination of frosty mornings, drizzly days, and the occasional dry spell. As the month progresses, temperatures gradually start to rise, hinting at the arrival of spring. On average, February sees around 9 rainy days, and while snow is possible, it tends to be infrequent and light.

Despite the cold, February holds a certain charm with its mix of winter beauty and the promise of spring. Walking through London’s parks or along the Thames, wrapped up in warm clothing, can be a delightful experience.

You can savor the quieter side of the city as it emerges from the deep winter chill.

The average high temperatures during February typically reach 9°C (48°F), with lows around 3°C (37°F). These temperatures can vary slightly throughout the month:

  • Early February: 8°C (46°F)
  • Mid-February: 9°C (48°F)
  • Late February: 10°C (50°F)
Rain

Rainfall remains fairly common in February, but the number of rainy days slightly decreases compared to January. The chance of rain is relatively steady throughout the month, beginning at about 34% and tapering off slightly to 33% by the end of February.

💡 It’s wise to carry waterproofs and plan for some indoor activities, especially if you prefer staying dry while exploring.

Colder Times

February weather is still cold, so tourists should stay bundled up throughout the day, particularly during the early mornings and evenings when temperatures are at their lowest. A warm raincoat, along with hats, scarves, and gloves, is essential for comfort while exploring the city.

As the afternoon approaches, you may find the temperature slightly more bearable, allowing you to shed some layers.

Typical daily temperature progression during a day in mid-February:

  • Early Morning: 3°C (37°F)
  • Morning: 7°C (45°F)
  • Afternoon: 9°C (48°F)
  • Evening: 4°C (39°F)

Tip: To warm yourself up when exploring hop on the London Underground. The Underground is usually a few degrees warmer than outside so will give you a warm boost on a cold day.

If you tend to feel cold easily, consider walking briskly around the city and using London’s Underground, where the enclosed space and warm air will help maintain your body temperature.

Chances of Snow

While the likelihood of snow decreases as February progresses, it is still possible to experience a few snowy days. When it does snow, it often melts quickly and doesn’t linger. The last significant snowfall in February was in 2018, but it’s always exciting to witness London covered in a light dusting of snow.

Febraury Outfit Tips | Overview

The chilly weather from the month before continues through to February with unpredictable weather highs and lows. Winter layers are still needed throughout the month, however you can start to wear lighter fabrics towards the end of February.

A warm coat and waterproof shoes are essential items of clothing to tackle the February cold. Bring plenty of thermal T-shirts, warm trousers and cosy sweaters or cardigans.

💡It is worth bringing warm hats, scarves and gloves to protect you from the chilly weather in February even if you don’t end up using them. The sun may shine in February more often but there is still a chance of icy temperatures and snow.

Visitor opinion: “The weather has the potential to be mild during February, however temperatures remain cold. Layers and warm winter essentials are still needed and a warm coat is a must-have item to pack for the weather in London during February.”

Styles: Expect to see Londoners bundled up with stylish layers, coordinating outerwear and sturdy boots. Utility fashion is popular in London during winter as comfort is key when the temperatures are cold.

London is a fast-paced city so fashion has to be practical to survive the cold weather. Rain is common in February so waterproof boots are a necessity, along with waterproof winter coats.

When it comes to going out in the evening Londoners dress in a practical yet stylish way. Smart flat boots that are chic yet weatherproof are worn with trousers and skirts. Coats are toasty and warm yet well-fitted to create a put-together appearance.

During the day backpacks or large shoulder bags are the norm to carry everything you need for a day of sightseeing. However, at night leave the backpack at home and just take the essentials in a smaller purse or smart leather shoulder bag.

Detailed Outfit Guide | From Early to Late February

The atmosphere in London during February can be exciting as the city begins to transition out of winter. Days become sunnier with more daylight hours making the cold weather more bearable.

Even though the temperatures are warmer than in January, it still feels cold in the city and if you forget your gloves you will feel it when walking around. This outfit guide will help you pack everything you need for the unpredictable weather in London during February.

During early to mid-February the weather is still chilly with strong winds and rain showers making the city feel damp and cold. Mornings are very cold and you will need a warm jacket with gloves and a hat if you are planning to take in the famous sights of London.

Warm shoes are also an essential item to bring with you for a trip in February. Londoners like to feel comfortable during winter and will be seen with flat leather ankle boots, trainers or stylish walking boots.

For men and women, a stylish February outfit consists of well-fitting dark jeans and a sweater with a warm rainproof jacket. Warm knitted hats and scarves finish the look for a cosy early February outfit, with gloves at the ready if you need them.

Add personal touches to your outfit with pattern shirts layered under sweaters or a well-fitted dress in a cosy fabric. Your outerwear can either be neutral-toned for a polished look or bright and colourful to express your individuality.

The weather in mid to late February is much the same with sunnier days but temperatures remaining cold. Pack plenty of layers that are easy to adjust and wrap up warm when you go outside.

The days might be sunnier but it’s not warm enough to shed the layers. A warm sweater or hoodie are travel wardrobe essential for February, layered under a rainproof jacket or a stylish leather or wool coat.

It’s also a good idea to bring at least two footwear options. A sturdy warm pair of boots that can handle cold weather and a comfortable pair of waterproof sneakers for when the weather is mild:

Black ankle boots that are comfortable yet smart can be worn from day to night and will help you reduce how much you need to bring in your suitcase.

Finally, bring a suitable selection of bags. A small cross-body bag is ideal for holding valuables such as phones, IDs and wallets. Whereas a smart leather backpack or chic shoulder bag will store water bottles, umbrellas hats and gloves for when you need them.

💡The London Underground is a great resource for getting around London quickly, but it’s also a great place to get warm. Be ready to unzip coats and take off hats on the Underground as temperatures are usually considerably toastier than outside, especially during rush hour.

Personal Experiences and Tips for February

February in London is one of the most unpredictable months of the year, where you can experience every type of weather condition in one month. Being prepared for anything the weather throws at you is key to enjoying your stay in London during February.

When the sun is shining it can feel like the city is warming up and you may be tempted to wear fewer layers, however, the sunshine can be deceiving as temperatures average at around 9°C (48°F) during February.

If you are tired of your chunky layers you can wear a lighter raincoat or a leather jacket as long as it’s warm, however, you will still want to have a T-shirt and a warm sweater underneath. Sturdy winter boots can be replaced by rain-resistant trainers that are comfortable and stylish with unique trainers styles popular in London.

However, you should also bring a pair of smart leather boots if you want to go out in the evening. My preference is to wear comfortable black lace-up leather boots that can be worn from day to night.

Finally don’t leave winter accessories such as hats, scarves and gloves at home. Walking around the city sightseeing can get cold in February and there will be plenty of days when you see Londoners bundled up against the cold.
