Rainfall
South Beach, Miami: A few clouds

It is officially the first month of the dry season in Miami.

In Miami, there is little rainfall during November, decreasing as the month goes on. As the wet season is technically over, Miami tends to be dramatic when the season shifts. It is likely to have lingering storms and the occasional rainfall during the first part of the month.

In November, the average amount of rainfall in Miami is 2.7 inches. By the end of the month, that number will decrease to about 1.6 inches. Rainfall is usually present only 16% of the time throughout the month.

Keep in Mind: Hurricanes and potential storms ARE STILL POSSIBLE this month. From our past experiences, road trips have been delayed or put on hold due to high rains and even flooding during the month of November.

Heat/Humidity

Even though the seasons have shifted in Miami, due to its southern location and close proximity to the Caribbean, high humidity levels are still common during November. While the effects won’t be near as strong as in the previous months, if you are someone who is not used to high levels of humidity, it might feel more extreme.

Miami tends to have higher levels of humidity in the morning hours with an average of 85% in November. The humidity levels in the afternoon and evening hours drop to an average of just 61%.

Tip: It is critical to stay hydrated throughout the day and to apply sunscreen while spending extended periods of time outside. Bring a refillable water bottle with you to keep with you during the day.

Daily Weather Progression

November is the start of the dry season, but it is still prone to unpredictable weather because of the seasonal shifts happening. Afternoons will most likely be the hottest time of the day with higher temperatures, with mornings and evenings being cooler.

Typical daily temperature progression:

  • Early Morning (6 AM): 73°F
  • Early Afternoon (1 PM): 82°F
  • Evening (10 PM): 76°F

Mornings: Mornings tend to have bright and sunny skies. It’s the main time of the day when you will feel the effects of the humidity.

Evenings: Evening hours will be cooler, as temperatures drop fast when the sun goes down.

Water Temperature

Miami Beach: Surfing

November is the month when you can really feel the effects of the summer season coming to an end. Temperatures and humidity levels decrease, along with water temperatures as well. However, Miami keeps higher temperatures than most other parts of the state throughout the year due to its southern location.

November is one of the best months of the year to visit Miami for a combination of comfortable weather and warm water temperatures. During November, the average ocean temperatures in Miami hover around 79°F.

Hurricanes/Storms: It is important to take hurricane warnings seriously, and be sure to take the necessary precautions to ensure safety in case of an emergency. Even though they are less common than in previous months, there is still a tiny chance for hurricanes and tropical storms throughout November.

Outfit Guide for November

In Miami, you can wear the latest fashions and almost any trendy outfit you like.

In the mornings in November, we recommend wearing long thin pants, with a t-shirt and a light sweater or jacket in Miami. Alternatively shorts with long sleeves and a jacket. Afternoons are hot enough to remove the jacket. Keep a sweater or pants handy for the cooler evening hours.

💡 As temperatures are lower in the morning and drop again when the sun goes down, layering options will be your best friend this month.

Should I Bring Jeans?

In Miami, shorts will likely be the better option since it is warm most days of the year.

SHOP NOW | Amazon: Recommended Light Jeans

Even though it will be warmer and more humid, we still recommend bringing at least one or two pairs of jeans for when temperatures are cooler in the evenings.

When staying in Miami, we always keep a sweater or light jacket handy throughout the day for dining out in indoor restaurants. Even during the winter months, a lot of facilities keep the air conditioning on year-round and can be cooler indoors for some people.

SHOP NOW |  Recommended Light Sweater on Amazon

This is important to consider if you’re traveling to the southern parts of Florida and are packing for warm weather. All fans and air conditioning units will be on full blast the further south you go, so even if you’re planning to wear your best summer outfits, bring a spare sweater.

Headache

When traveling in Florida we suggest always bringing some medicine for a headache. The Florida heat is no joke and if you aren’t used to a warm climate, this could really bring a damper to your vacation. As November humidity levels drop, it can still affect people who aren’t used to a tropical climate.

An alternative to medication to stop or prevent a headache is to drink electrolytes. People who especially aren’t used to the weather will likely do plenty of sweating, and replacing the salt and minerals your body is losing in your sweat is very important to stay healthy.

The Florida sun, especially in Miami,  is literally different from the rest of the United States – apart from Hawai’i, the Sunshine State is the southernmost state in the country. This means that the sun’s rays strike the state at a higher angle, which increases its ability to heat in the summer and winter.

Tip: Besides sunscreen always bring a baseball hat (see our recommendations above)

This means that even if you’re in a cooler northern city, sun protection is still very important. On top of staying hydrated, protecting your skin with sunscreen or long sleeves and pants is a must.

If you’re spending time in the southern part of Florida and want to expose more of your skin to keep cool, choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to prevent burning. Also, keep a hat and sunglasses handy!

Tip: Applying sunscreen in the morning before your Florida excursions won’t be enough if you plan on being out all day. Reapply at least every two hours, especially if you are sweating or getting your skin wet.

Personal Experiences

Protect your thighs in shorts: I wore some athletic shorts to walk around all day. They were cooler than leggings, but my thighs were chafing really badly because of sweat and humidity.

If you plan on wearing shorts, either wear long biker shorts or bring baby powder and lotion to absorb the moisture on your legs and reduce chafing! It would have saved me a lot of pain.

Check your SPF: Make sure you don’t buy a sunscreen with low SPF and wear it all day during your Disney trip! I bought a 15 SPF sunscreen during a rushed grocery store trip the night before my Disney vacation.

I didn’t notice the SPF on the bottle, thinking any sunscreen would do. My skin was so red and sensitive by nighttime after my first day walking around the parks. I couldn’t understand why I was so burnt until I looked it up and realized the SPF I used was half the recommended amount.

The next day, I had to cover up with a hat and a thin long-sleeved shirt to protect my raw and peeling skin. It was very warm and uncomfortable but I had no choice – I won’t be making that mistake again!

It’s the little things: If there’s one thing I would tell someone to bring that they likely overlooked in their luggage, it’s a small, portable fan!

Even if you don’t find the weather to be that hot or if you get lucky and have some cloudy days during your Florida trip, the one-of-a-kind tropical humidity will definitely catch up to you.

Bringing a mini-fan I bought on Amazon kept me from being grouchy while waiting in lines to get on the park rides, many of which were outdoors and packed with other people! It wasn’t as strong as air conditioning, but even a little breeze helped me feel better.

The beaches in Miami are great to swim in year-round. If you’re planning to swim, pack more than one bathing suit so you always have a dry one ready to go!

Beach tip: If you visit the beach and have plans in the area afterwards, most nearby restaurants are swim-attire-friendly. Always double-check, but you shouldn’t have any problems if you want to grab a bite to eat after the beach in a swimsuit and cover-up or T-shirt and swim trunks.

Essential Packing List for Women
  • Tank tops
  • Loose shirts
  • Sundresses
  • Loose or sweat-wicking shorts
  • A light jacket or sweater
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Flip flops for the beach
  • Strappy sandals or heels for a night out
  • Sunglasses

Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun’s intensity but can also help elevate your outfit. The same goes for hats to keep your face shaded, but if you want to keep it more casual, a baseball cap can work just fine.

Jewelry

Less jewelry is more, especially if you have a busy day of fun planned. Stick to simple chains with a secure clasp, especially when going in the ocean or on theme park rides. Avoid rings, earrings, or other pieces of jewelry that can get lost or caught on something.

Feel free to wear all the pieces you like when exploring the nightlife, especially in Florida’s bustling, bright cities like Miami.

Prepare Well for Your Night Out

Bring a pair of thick socks in your bag if you’re wearing heels for a long night out. Since you likely won’t be able to carry around a spare pair of shoes if your feet get tired, socks will give you the option to retire your heels and keep you from walking around barefoot.

This is especially true if you’re doing a lot of walking in the evening, like bar hopping or going to a concert.

Things to Do & Beaches

In Miami, it’s hard to get bored regardless of the month. There are so many beaches, museums, restaurants, and shops in Miami in November that the list of things to do is never ending.

Beaches

A trip to Miami isn’t complete unless you spend a day or three at the beach. Some of the warmest water and most beautiful beaches in all of Florida are in Miami. Depending on what kind of beach you like, there are many options for visitors in Miami:

South Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the country and is loaded with restaurants, attractions, shops, and sights. It is a very welcoming, energetic, and trendy/upbeat city, so visitors shouldn’t be surprised by anything. It is known for its thriving nightlife and abundance of bars and clubs on the strip.

Miami Beach: Head north to Miami Beach if you want to find a beach with a more peaceful and relaxing vibe. Ideal for visitors who want to enjoy their time in Miami but don’t want to deal with all the noise and excitement of South Beach.

Everglades

Everglades National Park is only a short 30-mile drive west of downtown Miami. It’s one of the must-do things when visiting in November, as it’s a great month for an Everglade experience.

You are free to book any tour, but we highly recommend this one as their staff is amazing:

More Boat Tours

The city of Miami, particularly Biscayne Bay, is filled with many different boat tour opportunities for travelers. Depending on your budget and interests, there is something for everyone. If boats aren’t your thing, jet skis (South Beach Jet Ski Rental) are also available as an alternative.

45-Minutes Speedboat Tour (reservation via GetYourGuide): Our personal tip and absolute favorite. What an adventure! We were blown away at how much fun this was. We did this one three times last year!

You can float by Millionaire Row and Celebrity Island for sights of some of the most beautiful homes in all of Miami, owned by famous celebrities such as Shaquille O’Neal and P.Diddy. We highly recommend checking out this tour:

City Cruise to Millionaire’s Homes & Venetian Islands. The tour guides are amazing and the whole cruise is simply amazing.

There are also sunset tours, city tours, and boat tours all over the area of Biscayne Bay. Sunset tours are great for group or girls trips, and a superb way to end an evening of exploring:

Sunset Cruise through Biscayne Bay and South Beach: ‘Our guide was an amazing host, entertainer, and historian! The views of the sunset were stunning!’

Water Sports

The abundance of water sports available in Miami is unmatched. In November, you can take part in kayaking/canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, and jet skiing all over the city of Miami.

Biscayne Bay Kayak or Paddleboard Rental: Perfect for explorers, as you can get to incredible places that are hard to reach with a car or motorized boat along the shores of Biscayne Bay.

Since Florida has some of the bluest waters in the state, Key Largo Marine Sanctuary has some of the best snorkeling and diving spots in the country.

Great for beginners, and seasoned SUP lovers as well, Crandon Park has calm waters and little distractions, and ideal conditions for stand-up paddleboarding.

Wynwood Arts District

A personal favorite activity of ours is the Wynwood Arts District. This outdoor street museum is filled with street art, graffiti, and art installments that are unique, beautiful, and historical as well. There are guided tours available if you are interested in learning about history.

Wynwood Art District 1-Hour Street Art Tour by Golf Buggy: Even locals are doing this tour and recommend it as a fantastic experience!

It is also the ideal place to get the perfect new profile picture as there are dozens of backdrops available for creators.

Little Havana

This is a ‘must see’ in Miami if you are a lover of food. Little Havana offers a little taste of Cuba right in the middle of Miami. It is a very walkable neighborhood and there are guided walking tours daily as well.

Little Havana: Food & Cultural Walking Tour with Lunch: The tour guides are exceptional and the food on this tour is fantastic! This is a must-do!

While you are here, don’t forget to stop by Versailles restaurant in November. Miami’s most popular Cuban restaurant dating back to 1971.

Museums

Miami has a museum for every type of traveler. Depending on your interests, Miami is home to history, science, art, and interactive museums for visitors of all ages. This is a great activity for an afternoon in November when the weather is unpleasant.

Special Tip: Miami ARTECHOUSE Immersive Art Experience Entrance Ticket

If you are a lover of music, head downtown to the Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday evenings for live music. If history is more your cup of tea, you may enjoy the Vizcaya museum and gardens, with history and facts dating back to the 19th century, and beautiful views. Additionally, and great for kids, The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is not only a museum but also a planetarium and aquarium.

Bayside Marketplace

Located in the heart of downtown, the Bayside Marketplace is another one of our personal favorite places to spend an afternoon in November. Located on the Bay close to Miami’s port, visitors can enjoy an afternoon of shopping and snacking at the various stores and cafes at the marketplace. This is an ideal place to grab any last-minute gifts or souvenirs!
