Pashupatinath Temple – Kathmandu

When Is the Best Time

The Pashupatinath Temple, which is a sacred Hindu temple, is open for visitors year-round. However, there are certain times which can make your visit a more rewarding experience.

The best time to visit Pashupatinath Temple to avoid the crowds is from September to November. During those months, the weather is great, it is quieter and it’s also the best time for trekking in Nepal.

The most crowded months are July/August and February/March.

In February or March each year the Shivaratri Hindu festival takes place. It’s a must-visit if you are interested in religious events. It’s also busy during Shravan, the holiest time, in July/August.

About our temple visit: Life and death in Hinduism… A great place, the ghats of Kathmandu, to be confronted with our Western culture where death and mourning are more private matters. Here there is a constant stream of families coming for the funeral of their relatives. Others are here just to pray, to contemplate, or to get advice from the Hindu priests. Holy men are among the crowd.
