When Is the Best Time
Diving is possible all year round in Rathlin Island, but the best time is the end of summer until the middle of October.
Rathlin Island lays at the top of Northern Ireland, in the Atlantic Ocean at the entrance of the Irish Sea. It’s a Special Area of Conservation and has a lot of seabirds living on its cliffs. The north side has some spectacular walls full of sponges and cold-water corals.
Occasionally you can see grey seals or basking sharks on your way to the dive spots. Rathlin is also a diversity hotspot for sponges with a 140 registered species. And you can also dive some interesting wrecks like the Loughgarry, a WW II troop transporter. Aquaholics.co.uk is the dive operator in nearby Ballycastle.
