San Blas Archipelago

When Is the Best Time

The best time to visit San Blas Archipelago is during the dry season December until April, semi-dry season June, July and August.

San Blas Archipelago is part of the Kuna tribal area. Flights from Panama City to El Porvenir. Snorkeling is very nice but there are no diving operators on the islands.

8 San Blas Archipelago Visiting Facts
  1. There is no mass tourism yet. The Kuna have control over their own land, and they seem to have little interest in having their islands exploited.
  2. Snorkeling in clear water is always possible. You can see turtles, manta rays, rays and many colorful species of fish in absolute proximity to the beach.
  3. There is no electricity or internet on the islands. A few islands throw on the generator, but otherwise you’re on your own and can just switch off!
  4. You are never far from the sea and fall asleep with the sound of the sea.
  5. The temperatures are consistently warm all year round.
  6. You learn about the culture of the Kunas. For example, that the Kuna are reluctant to be photographed.
  7. The accommodations in the archipelago are simple and actually just small huts or cabanas. They are built of wood, palm and bamboo leaves and have a bed and mattress. But that’s all you need in paradise like that.
  8. Freshly caught fish is awesome here! Other than that, though, the food is pretty simple and consists of lots of rice and beans every day. So it’s a good idea to bring food from the mainland.
