When Is the Best Time
Not far from Page in Arizona and worth a visit during every season and time of day.
However, the best shot is possbile in the morning or even better in the evening with clouds in the sky. Some say that a thundery atmosphere in the late afternoon is just excellent for taking photos.
Tips for morning/afternoon shots: The rim blocks the best light until about an hour after sunrise. At sunset, the rim also blocks the best light but not as much as after sunrise.

Its a little hard to get to…but well worth the effort. The Rock Factory is a really cool place overlooking Lake Powell. It’s right off HWY 89 on the way out of Page AZ headed to Kanab. It is just outside of Page after you come out of the valley. See the map in the images. The hoodoos of Stud Horse point sit a bit below the rim of a cliff but are easily accessible. The view from The Rock Garden is amazing…and once you get there you will see why they call it the rock garden.
The views of Lake Powell are truly amazing but the rock formations are shocking.
Tip: You will need to go through a couple of gates and the road can be bad if it’s wet. 4 wheel Drive high clearance recommended.
