When Is the Best Time
All seasons are great to visit Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in Indiana. However, I think autumn would be ideal to have the trees as a backdrop for the highly ornate structures on the property. The cooler temps reducing bugs would allow you to hike through the dense woods on their 108 acres.
A hidden gem, even locals born and raised in Bloomington are surprised to learn there is a peaceful Buddhist monastery tucked into the woods in their own town.
Usually open and very accepting of visitors, you can stop in to see the stunning structures on the property. Monks are often interested in chatting with the public or you may simply want to watch them as they most carefully create sand mandalas. There are woods to hike through, and if you want to stay longer, there are yurts available to rent for just under $100 a night.
Consider giving a small monetary donation for them to further their efforts in promoting interfaith harmony, as a way of saying thank you for being able to tour their monastery.
If you stay long enough that you need to grab a bite to eat, there is a Tibetan Mongolian restaurant run by the monastery in downtown Bloomington. One of the few places in the Midwest you can enjoy a cup of hot butter tea.
