Trapp Family Lodge

When Is the Best Time

Year-round, each season provides a different view of their expansive 2,500 wooded acres. Mid-week will give you less busy trails and an easier time grabbing a bite or dinner at the lodge.

Tips

The history of The von Trapp Family Lodge as told by the family.
“In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe, Vermont on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria. In the summer of 1950, they began welcoming guests to a rustic, 27-room family home/lodge. After a devastating fire in 1980, the original structure was replaced by the new Trapp Family Lodge, a striking, 96-room alpine lodge situated on 2,500 acres.”

There are more than 35 miles of hiking trails. The Long Trail crosses over Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. For the best up-to-the-minute trail information including maps and trail conditions, check out this link

Whether you can stop by for an hour or can stay for a week, the hiking is fantastic from the first step. The longer trails are still feasible even in mid-winter with a warming house available halfway along the trail.

This is not your typical resort, the von Trapp family is committed to tradition and has no interest in being the latest trendy spot. With their European-style accommodations, mountain-style living, access to endless adventures, and world-class dining, you can go from being fully wrapped in the glorious mountains of Vermont, head-to-toe covered in your off-trail, hiking adventure, and wind up sitting by a fire and enjoying one of the many new brews they are crafting based on age-old techniques.

I haven’t been many places in my life where you feel everyone you cross paths with is so very down-to-earth but also can savor the balance they have struck in rustic elegance. Which I suppose is actually very much like the mountains of Vermont themselves.
