Tip: Look after your thighs! Because you will probably sweat lots, pack some baby powder or lotion if you plan to wear short shorts. These items will absorb the moisture between your thighs and reduce chafing.

Tip: If you plan to wear high heels in the evening, bring a thick pair of socks in your bag. Since you likely won’t have an opportunity to switch shoes if your feet begin to hurt, this will help and keep you from walking around the Vegas streets or casinos barefoot.

The Sun is STRONG!

It’s easy to underestimate the Vegas heat if you’ve never experienced it. Our Vegas local says that can be a dangerous mistake.

Dressing comfortably and staying healthy is always better than dressing to impress and suffering from a heatstroke. Stick with comfortable clothes that are light, non-compressive, and breathable.

This means fashionable but restrictive clothing, like layers, should wait for another vacation.

If you plan on wearing sleeveless clothing, keep in mind your sensitive shoulders can be at risk for burning in the desert sun. To protect as much of your skin as possible, keep a hat and sunglasses on and wear plenty of sunscreen.

Tip: Chic sunglasses can add an extra “wow” element to any outfit. Your hat should be stylish but practical in keeping your face protected from the sun. If you want to keep it more casual, a baseball cap can work just fine.

The sun will feel very strong against your skin, so make sure you’re wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for any extended outdoor activity.

Hydration is your #1 priority

Last summer when I went to Las Vegas, I nearly passed out by the end of my day of excursions around the Strip and Chinatown.

The high temperature of the day was around 112°F, and I drank some sips of water here and there, but not nearly enough. I also must have not realized how much I was sweating because of the dry air.

I felt lightheaded and dizzy a few hours into the day and nothing helped except powder electrolytes my sister had packed. Drinking them with water made me feel brand new in less than an hour.

Whether you’ll be indoors or outdoors a lot, the best thing you can do is drink lots of water and electrolytes to make sure you make it through your trip safely!

Mind the length of your dress

I wore a sundress that came to about mid-thigh one day in August. I normally wear longer dresses so don’t have to worry about my undergarments, but I probably should have thought ahead for this outfit.

This particular day was a bit more breezy than normal. It was enough to keep the skirt of my dress moving around and lifting up a bit at times. I had my hands full trying to smooth it down for most of the afternoon!

If you plan on wearing a shorter dress or skirt, consider wearing small or thin shorts, like athletic shorts, underneath. This will give you a big sense of comfort that you’re fully covered at all times, and a thin enough pair shouldn’t make you too overheated.

Stay in the shade: Bring a small portable umbrella with you whether you’re lounging by the pool or walking down the Strip! Even with sunscreen and a hat, I always feel like the summer sun in Las Vegas is going to bake my skin off.
