Below, we answer all of your possible outfit questions about a visit to Vegas during this early spring month.
Weather Overview
During this month, it’s comfortable to stroll through the city. Average highs reach about 72°F (22°C), with low humidity levels. The mornings are about 15°F (9°C) colder, and the average rainfall is only 0.5 inches.
Clouds: In March, you will see clear blue skies most of the time. More than half of the days pass by without seeing a single cloud. While overcast days are possible, they are much less common than in other areas of the United States in March.
These weather conditions make it perfect for getting outside in the afternoon and enjoying the inside attractions in the evening. It will feel like a relief if you’re coming from colder areas in the north.
Progression: With March being the transition between winter and summer, temperatures rise steadily throughout the whole month:
- Early March: 68°F (20°C)
- Mid-March: 72°F (22°C)
- Late March: 76°F (24°C)
Morning/Noon/Evening Temps: The nights and mornings can get pretty chilly in the desert, even in March. Be prepared for rapidly falling temperatures in the evening. This is what a day could look like:
Early March:
- 8 AM: 52°F
- 12 PM: 63°F
- 4 PM: 66°F
- 10 PM: 55°F
Late March:
- 8 AM: 57°F
- 12 PM: 69°F
- 4 PM: 73°F
- 10 PM: 62°F
Precipitation: During March, all precipitation in Las Vegas falls as rain since temperatures do not go below freezing.
The chance of rain falls drastically throughout the month, starting with about a 12% daily chance at the beginning of the month and ending with around 5%. Typically there is only a slim chance of some raindrops. So, if you want rain, stay away from Las Vegas.
Wind: Especially in the afternoon, wind speeds increase in the desert. The average wind speed in March is 8.5mph for Las Vegas. The wind speeds lower the perceived temperature. In other words, you might feel colder than it is. On windy days, a sweater is a good idea. We suggest checking the forecast.
Quotes from Locals About the March Weather
- ‘March is a great time to visit Vegas. Days are warm enough and enjoyable while still having a slight bite of coolness in the air.’
- ‘March is often the most unpredictable and erratic month in terms of weather in Las Vegas. Temperatures can range from the 50s through the 80s. No two years are equal, so the experiences of others in the past give you only a rough idea.’
- ‘When visiting Vegas in March, the best advice is to check the forecast while packing. However, even then, be prepared for changing conditions in Las Vegas.â
Outfit Tips and Packing Guide

In March, you will want to wear short/long-sleeve t-shirts, jeans, and a light sweater or a light jacket for cooler mornings and evenings in Las Vegas. Remove a layer or two when it gets warm in the afternoon. Layering is key in March.
This is the month when pool season officially starts. If the low 70s feels warm to you, make sure to pack a swimsuit, sunscreen, and sunglasses so you can make a splash.
Advice: As always, when packing for a trip, itâs a good idea to choose items that all coordinate well with each other to give you the most possible options.
Do You Need a Jacket in March?

- CLASSIC FIT: Close-but-comfortable fit with easy movement
Because the mornings in Las Vegas are cool, but not freezing, and the afternoons are moderate, you will not need a thick snow jacket on your trip. We do recommend packing a regular light to medium jacket or sweatshirt that you can put on and take off easily as the day warms up a bit.
Our March Jacket Tips for Vegas | AMAZON
If you come from a northern or midwestern part of the United States, you will probably be happy walking around the Strip in just a short-sleeve shirt and jeans on a sunny afternoon in March. In this case, you should be fine to pack a few undershirts to layer up, plus one or two jackets or sweaters for the cool mornings and chilly evenings.
If you originate from an always-sunny state where shorts and sandals are part of the daily uniform year-round, you will find yourself happy with a thicker jacket layered on top of a long-sleeve shirt or sweater throughout the day. Still, we recommend layering with an undershirt in case you happen to be pleasantly surprised by the sunny warmth of certain afternoons.
A Typical Day
Mornings
At 9 or 10 AM when youâre leaving your hotel, you will want to dress warmly with a few layers on. With the last bit of overnight chill still hanging in the air, a T-shirt or long-sleeve underneath a jacket or sweatshirt and jeans will keep you comfortable as you take part in your breakfast and other morning activities around the city.
Afternoons
By midday, you should be feeling much warmer, especially if you are walking outdoors beneath the desert sun. If youâre feeling too toasty, you can peel off your outer layer and walk around in your long-sleeve or T-shirt. If you are a particularly chilly person, you would benefit from carrying a lighter sweater with you to swap with your jacket around this time.
As the afternoon wears on, temperatures normally peak for the day around 3 or 4 PM. You should be comfortable walking around in your base layer by this time even if you havenât stripped off your outer layers yet.
If the afternoon is not particularly sunny, however, you will be happy to have your outer layer handy to slip back on as night time comes around the corner.
Evenings
Once the sun goes down for the evening at around 6 PM, you will want to re-apply your layers as the night wears on, especially if you are visiting on a windier day.
If you get the chance to return to your hotel room to change for your evening activities, youâll want to change into nice closed-toed shoes or boots, smart pants or trousers, and a blouse or collared long-sleeved shirt that will pair well with your jacket. Even if you donât feel cold enough to wear the jacket right away, bring it with you to layer up later.

Excursion Outfits
While the Strip is full of plenty of sights and shows, there is so much to see and explore that lies outside of the city lights. If youâre planning an outdoor adventure, itâs extremely important to consider your attire and supplies, especially because it may be a bit of a drive back to your hotel if you forget anything important, like water or a sweater.
Whether youâre planning on a picnic at Lake Mead, a hike through Red Rock Canyon, or a chance to experience some much cooler temperatures up on Mount Charleston, you should plan on wearing comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes you can move freely in.
Women’s Athletic Shirt Tips | AMAZON
Women should wear leggings or stretchy pants for freedom of movement, a comfortable sports bra, and a long-sleeved athletic shirt. These kinds of shirts are convenient because they are tight and warm but also sweat-wicking, so they are perfect to layer with a light to medium jacket if you get cold in the high altitudes of a destination like Mount Charleston.
Men should plan to wear joggers or sweatpants and a long-sleeved athletic shirt to layer with a light jacket. Everyone should come prepared with thick, comfortable socks and supportive walking or hiking shoes.
A spare sweater or jacket is a great idea to pack in the car on your day trip, as the winds and altitude can make temperatures much colder than they are in the city. Simultaneously, Red Rock will see warmer temperatures than Mount Charleston, so if the former is your destination, you should plan on needing to take off your outer layer and wrap it around your waist or stuff it in your backpack as you heat up on your hike.
Regardless of your destination, itâs always better to take more layers than fewer, because you can always take off an outer layer if the exercise raises your body temperature.
Tip: Even if you donât think the weather is too cold and want to wear shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, we recommend covering up as much skin as possible, especially when hiking, to protect yourself from bugs, plants, and other flora and fauna you may come into contact with in the wild desert.
Outdoor activities: If you plan to venture out into the nearby hiking areas during the daytime, wear light layers and hiking boots.

Personal Experiences and Tips
Sunscreen is still important: While you wonât be sweating during your spring trip to Las Vegas, that doesnât mean the sun isnât packing a punch.
When I visited Las Vegas in the springtime, my skin was covered up with long-sleeves and pants nearly the entire time, so I wasnât too worried about sun exposure. But if you plan on walking around outdoors for much of your trip, pack some sunscreen at least for your face and neck.
After just a few hours of being outdoors, my skin got a little pink and irritated, and I had to go out and buy some SPF for the rest of my trip.
Pro tip: Many moisturizers have SPF in them, and I would recommend buying one of those for some dual action. Your skin will thank you, since the desert air is very, very drying.
Pack a scarf: Consider packing a scarf in your luggage if you are coming to visit from a warmer climate.

My mom is a Florida native and thinks anything below 75 degrees Fahrenheit is freezing. Whenever she comes to Vegas anytime that it isnât summer, she is prepared with dozens of long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, and thick coats.
Her latest trend has been investing in good scarves to wear throughout her Vegas vacation, and she loves it! She says it helps protect the skin on her neck from the sun, reduces how sharp the wind feels on her face, and gives her something to breathe through when the air feels too cold for her nose.
Donât bother with extra winter attire: I would have saved some space in my suitcase if I had left some gloves, beanies, and thick winter socks at home.
Even though I visited Vegas in early spring, I overestimated how cold it would be, because I am unfamiliar with desert weather. While some mornings and nights were chilly enough to warrant a jacket and pants, I wasnât at risk of my fingers, toes, or ears going numb. Much of the heavy winter clothing I packed went unused.
Plan on jackets, sweaters, and lots of layers, and you will be fine!
Conclusion
March is a beautiful time to experience Las Vegas; the winter freeze is starting to melt away, while still allowing you to enjoy sweater weather under clear skies. Pack warm sweaters, several options for layers, some extra emergency clothes, and comfortable walking shoes.
