Outfits | Packing Guide
When packing for October, keep in mind that in early October, it’s still hot and that it’s getting slightly cooler later in the month. However, in mid-to-late October, the weather is still warm but changeable.
In early October, you can wear T-shirts, shorts, or jeans in Las Vegas. For the colder evenings and towards the end of the month, light layers like a light sweater are advisable. Pack comfortable shoes, a sunhat, suncream, and swimwear if you plan to hit the pools.

This means you will likely be cold in the restaurants or casinos, so bringing a sweater will be helpful. If you get cold easily, you might even want your sweater while outdoors at night once temperatures begin to drop.

While we don’t recommend wearing jeans if you’re going to be walking the streets of Vegas during the hot afternoons in early October, they are a good item to pack for several occasions.
SHOP NOW: Timeless Summer Jeans on Amazon
You can style them up during the cooler evenings, and they are a great option for any time of day as fall temperatures kick in later in the month.
💡 If you’re visiting around the beginning or mid-October, try to stay away from tight, skinny cuts of jeans and pack a more breathable style. If you’re visiting closer to the end of the month, tighter pants should be fine.
Styling tip: Experiencing Las Vegas near the colder end of the month means you get to worry less about heat stroke and be more creative with your outfit choices. Feel free to wear closer-fitting clothing or layers, especially during the evening time!

Despite the changeable weather during October, you should always dress to impress in Las Vegas, regardless of the time of the year. Especially when visiting nightclubs, as most of them have a dress code.
Visiting casinos and shows: While there is no official dress code, we still recommend dressing smartly. For women, this is an eye-catching dress with complimenting jewelry and accessories. For men visiting casinos or shows, you should wear smart pants and a blazer or fitted jacket over a button-up shirt.

Ladies: Dress to Impress!
Even if you go to Vegas near the end of the month, the cooler weather will be manageable enough at night to show some more skin in your evening wear. You can never go wrong with a cocktail dress, whether you plan on going to a show, a nightclub, or playing at the casino.
Any little black dress will work as long as you pair it with the right accessories to achieve a more glamorous look.
Tip: If you plan to wear high heels in the evening, bring a thick pair of socks in your bag. Since you likely won’t have an opportunity to switch shoes if your feet begin to hurt, this will help and keep you from walking around the Vegas streets or casinos barefoot.

Is the Desert Sun Still Strong in the Fall?
While the fall season will be in full swing during October in Las Vegas, this does not mean the entire month is free of the sun’s strong rays. It’s important to consider sun protection when planning your trip, especially if you are visiting near the beginning of the month.
Since cloud coverage and lower temperatures will not really begin until mid-October, there is still a risk for heat-related illness, so keep in mind that dressing comfortably and staying healthy should be your priority.
Stick with loose and breathable clothing if visiting during the beginning of the month, but feel free to pack some long-sleeves if visiting closer to the end of the month.

Remember that whether you’re planning on warm or cooler weather during your trip, UV ray protection is a must.
Tip: Even if you plan on covering up more with a sweater or some layers, it’s a good idea to pack a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for your face and neck area.
💡 Chic sunglasses or a fun, wide-brimmed hat can help with sun protection while adding an extra “wow” element to any outfit.
My Personal Experiences and Tips
Avoid your Marilyn moment: If you’re planning on wearing a dress, consider packing one with some extra length in case you encounter some windy days in your trip.
I visited Las Vegas during a windier weekend in mid-October and wish I had known how strong the gusts would be! I wore a short dress for a music festival, and after just a few minutes outside waiting for my rideshare, I had to run back upstairs to my hotel room to avoid an outfit malfunction.
My dress was getting blown around by the wind, and I knew I’d be flashing everyone all day if I went to the festival like that.
Thankfully, I had packed a spare pair of thin athletic shorts that were practically invisible under the dress but helped me feel more covered up and kept me from having to smooth down my skirt all day.
A small umbrella can work wonders: If you’re visiting during the very warm days in early to mid-October, bring a small portable umbrella for permanent shade!
The sun felt like it was stinging my skin during the afternoon, even though it was technically the fall season already. I found a small, light-colored umbrella at a convenience store and it was such a great investment!
Not only was I less hot, but the shade also helped protect my skin well into my afternoon of touring the Strip when I didn’t have sunscreen handy to reapply.
Keep your things close to you: If you plan on spending time in heavily populated tourist areas, like the Strip pedestrian bridges or Fremont Street, be wary of people around you!
When I visited Las Vegas, I was walking between two big casinos in a part of the Strip that was really packed with tourists. I anticipated there would be a lot of performers and people asking for money, but some got aggressive while asking.
I’m so happy I had my wallet and other belongings in my fanny pack strapped across my chest, so it was easy to put my hand over the zipper as I kept walking to make sure my items were secure.
My biggest piece of advice is to keep your things in a small bag that is easy to hold and keep track of, or if that’s not possible, make sure you keep your wallet and phone in your front pocket. Avoid carrying these valuables in your hand, because someone can easily swipe them and run off.

Conclusion
October is fall’s “in-between” month in Las Vegas – the weather is still trying to hold onto summer warmth, but temperatures will begin to better reflect the autumnal season as the month goes on.
When packing for your October trip, keep in mind that you will still see some desert heat, but plan on changes in temperature as day turns to night. This means that you can keep the summer vacation wardrobe of shorts and sandals, but don’t forget to also pack a sweater and a longer pair of pants.
Outfits for Casinos | Restaurants | Clubs | Shows
Casino
Las Vegas casinos don’t enforce a specific dress code, but it’s generally expected that guests dress sensibly.
Even in the most upscale casinos, casual attire is completely acceptable, provided it’s neat and presentable.
Feel free to visit any Las Vegas casino in shirts and trousers without worrying about being judged for your choice of clothing.
Dressing for the Hotel Casino
In Las Vegas casinos, your attire can vary based on the hotel and time of day. During daytime, both men and women can go for a relaxed yet neat look with shorts or jeans, blouses, sport shirts with collars, or tasteful t-shirts.
In the evening, the dress code shifts slightly towards formality. Opt for jeans, slacks, blouses, skirts, dresses, button-down shirts, or jackets. Flip-flops are a no-go.
While most casinos don’t enforce a strict dress code, observing what others wear can be a helpful guide.

Nightclub
Dressing for the Nightclub
Nightclubs and lounges in Vegas usually have a dress code focused on smart and attractive attire. Avoid shorts, torn clothes, sneakers, flip flops, and plain t-shirts.
A more polished look is preferred – think business casual. This includes pressed jeans or slacks, button-down shirts, suitable dresses, skirts, blouses, and closed-toe leather shoes.
Adding a jacket to a collarless shirt like a t-shirt or pullover can elevate the outfit.
- Men:
- Pressed jeans or slacks
- Button-down shirts (long or short sleeved)
- Jackets (optional but recommended)
- Closed-toe leather shoes
- Women:
- Suitable dresses or skirts
- Blouses or stylish tops
- Pressed jeans or slacks
- Jackets or elegant outerwear
- Closed-toe shoes or dressy sandals
Restaurant
Dressing for Fine Restaurants
Fine dining in Vegas often comes with a dress code. While only a few, like Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand and Picasso at Bellagio, may require jackets, most fine dining establishments lean towards “business casual.”
This includes pressed jeans or slacks, button-down shirts (long or short-sleeved), and closed-toe shoes for both men and women. Ladies might also consider social occasion dresses.
- Men (Fine Dining):
- Jackets (required in select restaurants like Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand and Picasso at Bellagio)

- Button-down long or short-sleeved shirts
- Closed-toe shoes
- Women (Fine Dining):
- Social occasion dresses

Show
Dressing for the Las Vegas Show
The time of day influences your outfit choice for Las Vegas shows. Daytime shows are casual – prioritize comfort. Evening shows, especially upscale celebrity performances, often see guests dressing up more, though strict formal wear isn’t necessary.
Aim for an outfit that makes you feel comfortable and fitting in. For men, this might be dark jeans or slacks with a smart shirt, and for women, a dress or stylish ensemble suitable for an evening out.
In all these settings, the key is to balance comfort with style, keeping in mind the specific atmosphere of the place you’re visiting. Remember, Vegas is a place to impress and enjoy, so dress in a way that enhances your experience and confidence.
