Weather
Summer weather tends to be very dramatic and unpredictable, with August being the 2nd hottest month of the year in the city. Average high temperatures hover around 90°F, increasing as the month goes on.
Miami often has lower temperatures and higher humidity in the mornings, and vice versa in the afternoons.
Rain and Hurricanes: Summer is the wet season, so visitors should expect frequent showers. Rainfall and potential storms get more prevalent the more the season goes on. While June is the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, the storms aren’t so common this month. Taking a trip to Miami in the first half of June will give you the biggest chance of avoiding potential weather conditions that can disrupt your trip.
Crowds
Miami is an attractive city and brings in thousands of visitors all year round. June tends to be the busiest summer month due to having the most family vacations, lowest humidity, and typically the least amount of rainfall. Families will fill the coastline this month trying to beat the heat.
Beach crowds in particular, start to die down in the late afternoon hours where during this time rainfall is most common. While families and tourists will also start to taper off in July and August, and head to more inland areas in Florida.
Rates
Summer is the low season in Miami and commonly has lower than average rates. June will have the highest prices due to the kick-off of the season and more family vacations. However, visitors should expect prices to decrease as the season goes on.
August is a great month to get the best bang for your buck, while the Miami Spice event is happening. During this event, restaurants all throughout the city offer lower and discounted prices. If you are someone who can bear the sweltering temperatures and be okay with unpredictable weather, you will have a lot more breathing room while visiting Miami in August.
Activities
The city of Miami is loaded down with activities and things to do the whole year-round. So, you need to decide what kind of trip you are looking to have and what you are wanting to do. Miami has poppin’ nightlife, any water activity imaginable, hundreds of restaurants, and hours of sightseeing available. What’s most important?
Best Overall Summer Month: June

However, August tends to be the best month for shelling, as the water washes enormous amounts of articles to the coastline.
Water Sports
Water sports that are more laid back such as diving/snorkeling, kayaking, or sup boarding are more enjoyable during June, with the ocean having calmer water conditions.
Boating, jet-skiing, and other activities requiring more waves may be preferred later on in the summer, but be sure to stay updated on weather conditions and take precautions to stay safe.
Best Summer Month for Hitting the Beaches
The coastline of Miami is one of the best parts of the entire city. The beaches are beautiful and some of the most popular in the whole state. If you are looking for a beach-based summer vacation, Miami is a great choice.
Weather | Best Month: June
Beach vacations are most preferred with weather conditions that are warm and pleasant, with blue and sunny skies. As summer is also the middle of the wet season, June is going to give you your best chance of having ideal ‘beaching’ conditions during this season in Miami.
If you are visiting in July or August, try to hit the beach early. Temperatures aren’t unbearable, and rainfall is less common in the morning hours. While humidity levels are higher at this time of day, the breeze from the ocean lowers the effects.
Crowds
Miami has miles of coastline, and a lot of space for tourists to spread out. Even so, beaches will be most crowded during the month of June. This month has the most family vacations and the best weather conditions, so tourists tend to flood the coastlines.
Crowds will die down throughout the summer, mainly due to unpredictable weather conditions, and many travelers opting for inland Florida destinations. Additionally, visitors should expect the morning hours to be the most crowded, while visitors disperse in the afternoon due to rain showers and high temperatures.
Water Temperature
As mentioned above, the ocean water in Florida is like a big bathtub the entire summer. While we travelers love warm weather, so do hurricanes. As the summer goes on, the waters get warmer and hurricanes are more prevalent.
Since the temperatures in Miami are also hot, the water temperature isn’t much of a thought in the summertime when trying to cool off during extremely humid and muggy days. Miami’s coastline is one of the warmest in Florida, and as the summer continues, it only gets warmer.
Best Summer Month for Events & Festivals
Miami hosts hundreds of events throughout the year in all corners of the city. While summer is not jam-packed with festivals like during the high season, there is still something for everyone, every month of the summertime.
